Winning a commission from Sunderland City Council to design an art installation in the residential development for Northeast Disability Resource Centre, we proposed an interactive sculpture that celebrated the history of the local area.
The Cork Street Pisces is a celebration of Old Sunderland’s dependence of the
water, the River Wear and the North Sea, forming the DNA Sunderland as we know it now.
Comprising of reclaimed timber columns that form the Pisces symbol, set into and alpine rock arrangement within the central courtyard of the site. The planted central archway encourages residents and visitors to walk through the piece and see it from different aspects.
Partnering with AB Playgrounds (www.abplaygrounds.com) we oversaw the installation and planting, which saw the project delivered in time for the site opening in Nov 2022.
The NDRC residents and visitors now have a truly unique centerpiece to enjoy all year round, with a nod to the rich heritage of Sunderland, perineal plants and flowers planted to encourage wildlife, and an opportunity for communities to come together.
